It seems that my misfortune of living with chronic back pain has made me sort of impervious to pain. Or at least neuropathic enough to be able to handle more pain than expected. Yesterday I had surgery. Right on my tail bone, essentially. I had a spinal block which is one of the strangest sensations I have ever experienced. I was able to wiggle my toes but couldn't feel them. I told them to move and they moved, but they felt disconnected from my body. Nothing else from my waist down worked, though. Once out of the OR I slowly began regaining use of my legs. That too was weird. I sent a command to raise my leg and it jerked upward. I had no

So, Today is my birthday and I never really do anything or want anything. Seriously. People ask me "What can I get you?" I tell them "nothing". Most folks don't even know its my birthday, ESPECIALLY the guys a work, they're relentless. Anyhow, as many of you know, I'm happiest when I'm out in the woods all by myself, so that's what I decided to give myself: A birthday alone. I checked out the maps and decided on a trail that I have never been on in my life. Long story short, I planned on a 16 mile loop but settled for a 12 mile there-and-back. Olympic Wanderer I've decided to re-start my hiking blog. Ultimately, my goal is to have a sort of "Hiking Guide Service". Out-of-towners or even locals who would like to get out and see the great scenery and learn some local flora and fauna and history can come to me and I can put together a hike perfect for their fitness level and goals. I will slowly be documenting many of the local trails and perhaps I'll even get some video going.
