Unidentified Jar

I found this on a hike a few months back. I DIED getting this thing back... It weighs about 15 pounds, was strapped to my backpack and the water inside was sloshing around essentially doubling the weight. Plus walking on the sand wasn't making it any easier. It was about 6 miles back to the car.

Anyone know what it is?
